Flashback Friday: Skin Stories

January 17th, 2014 by Kevin -

The PBS series, Skin Stories, originally aired in 2003. That was before America was introduced to Miami Ink or any other television show about tattooing.

I know other episodes are available online. If someone takes the time to find links, please post them in the comments below.

Tattoo Stories: Luke Wessman, shot by Estevan Oriol

January 16th, 2014 by Kevin -

We’ve posted this before, but it’s been a while. Sanctioned TV has Estevan Oriol shooting some pretty amazing You Tube videos, featuring a wide array of tattoo artists. They call them ‘Tattoo Tuesdays‘ because, as you can guess, they post a new one every Tuesday.

The latest episode features infamous gentleman, Luke Wessman. It’s an interesting episode, and it gives everyone a little glimpse to whom Luke really is.

Joe Capobianco discusses a little bit of everything

January 13th, 2014 by Kevin -

I tried to narrow down exactly what Joe Capobianco discusses in this interview, but he discusses a little bit of everything. Joe doesn’t dive into a specific topic in depth, but briefly answers questions on a number of subjects including his seminars, television, his style, tattoo artists copying other styles, and how he started tattooing. Like I said, a little bit of everything.

For the record, I muted the video about ten seconds in… and I feel silly typing TattooLaPalooza. I’m NoT uSuAllY oNe FoR tHaT tYpE oF tHiNg.

Passing time with Derek Noble

December 17th, 2013 by Kevin -

Now this is a video that I can get excited about. See, I’ve been a fan of Derek Noble for years. I’ve been lucky enough to watch Derek tattoo on multiple occasions, and I still watched this video multiple twice.

Thanks to Sullen Clothing for the video!

Tattoo commentary from Mr. X

December 16th, 2013 by Kevin -

Mr. X is actually Duncan X who resides in London. Duncan has some very interesting things to say in this very interesting interview. Duncan talks a lot about his life, his struggles, and his perspective on tattooing.

I watch a lot of tattoo related videos, and this is by far one of the most interesting ones I’ve seen in a long time.

What is too much at a tattoo convention?

December 6th, 2013 by Kevin -

This video is from the Manchester Tattoo Convention back in August, and it shows a wide array of events taking place at the convention. In addition to the tattoo artists, there were the standard tattoo convention attractions such as vendors, live music, and a live show. There’s also a number of things we don’t typically see at conventions (in the states that is), such as people doing hair, selling cupcakes, and even a ‘photo booth’ featuring fake circus animals.

Which brings me to my question, when is it too much? Do tattoo conventions have to be transformed into a mini amusement park for the weekend for people to attend? What happened to the days of tattoo conventions in school gymnasiums?

I feel like we continue to head in this direction, tattoo conventions are going to quickly become less about the art and more about the event. I’d like to believe that a convention like that wouldn’t be successful, but I’m not so sure…
