Limited edition ‘Flash for Japan’ books available!

On the six-month anniversary of the devastating tsunami that swept over northern Japan, the finest tattooers in New York have come together to create a limited edition spiral bound collection of tattoo flash sheets, aptly named Flash For Japan.

The book features 28 of New York’s most respected tattoo artists, and only 100 copies are available. Copies run $100 — but all proceeds are being donated to assist the victims of the tsunami. You can purchase the book exclusively from Shirts & Destroy (online or in their Brooklyn storefront).   All production costs for the book were donated by Timothy Hoyer and Alpha Repro Graphics.

Tattoo Age: Troy Denning

If there’s one nice thing I can say about Vice TV, it’s that their Tattoo Age show is killing it. They continue to put out well-constructed trios of episodes for some amazing tattooers, and this newest installment is no different. Featuring artist Troy Denning based out of Invisible here in NYC, I’ve inserted all three episodes are below for your viewing pleasure. (Or skip on any wonky embedded-video issues your computer may experience by heading to the Tattoo Age website.)

Tattoo Age: The realest tattoo reality show?

Last week I posted about Tattoo Manor, a pseudo tattoo reality television show. I say pseudo because as of right now, they’re still looking for funding to shoot their pilot episode. While Tattoo Manor has some seriously talented artists involved, the overall reaction of the show was still mixed. Several of our readers suggested we check out Tattoo Age – a new series that will air on VBS.

After watching the trailer, I was a little taken back. I really feel like this the first show that really focuses on the art. Sure, other shows mention it but it seems to take second place to drama and the story of the client. This is obviously a refreshing change, and I think will be the difference between Tattoo Age and the other reality shows. I’m going to leave my comments at that, because honestly – I think that says a lot. Plus, I want to hear what you have to say.

The VBS website states the series kicks off next Wednesday, July 13th with Dan Santoro. Upcoming episodes will feature Troy Denning, Mike Rubendall, Freddy Corbin, and Grime.

Singularities: Invisible NYC

I’m always amazed by the stuff that gets sent our way–like the video below featuring Troy Denning’s shop, Invisible NYC. Denning really breaks down the secret to their business–and it is downright simple: offer top notch service to clients which results in continuous word-of-mouth referrals. (Write that down, it’s worth remembering.)

While it may not strike you as too crazy to see a video of a stellar shop posted here on Tattoo Snob, it bears noting that this piece was filmed by local menswear line, 3sixteen. They’ve been filming a series of videos for a project they’re calling “Singularities“. Here’s what Andrew Chen, founder of the line, had to say about it:

We’re hoping that the videos serve as a way to inspire and push others to pursue their creative passions at a higher level, as these people have all influenced us as designers greatly. The most interesting part of the Singularities project is that we’re going to take submissions from anyone who is working on a project of their own; and we’ll choose one to film with for a day. If they live outside of NYC, we’ll fly over to them. That way we can help give someone who is young and upcoming a chance to shine.
