Test your Mettle

July 2nd, 2012 by Kevin -

I don’t know much about this brand, but I’ve stumbled across the Mettle Collective Brand online and I’m dying to know more (and get my hands on some shirts.) I know they’re working with Scotty Munster, Dave Tevenal, Justin ‘Big Meas’ Wilson, and a number of other talented artists.

If anyone has any additional information, feel free to post it in the comments below.

Swapping tattoo stories

June 4th, 2012 by Julene Huffman -

The concept behind Pen & Ink is certainly unique, though I was skeptical about the idea when I first heard about the site. The idea of yet another Tumblr posting the stories behind peoples’ tattoos had me rolling my eyes–there’s a lot of room for things to go wrong when it comes to posting pictures of peoples’ tattoos indiscriminately. Then I read on Laughing Squid that the managing editor of Rumpus Magazine (Isaac Fitzgerald) and illustrator Wendy MacNaughton were involved. I had no choice but to check it out.

Here’s what sold me on the project: there’s no photos. Each post includes a user-submitted story alongside a simple pen & ink rendering of it. The illustration over photo approach cuts out any room for critiquing the tattoo itself, placing all the emphasis on the story rather than the result.

I’m curious what everyone else has to say–or, more importantly, if any of you are planning on submitting your own stories for consideration.

The Coloring Book Project

May 13th, 2012 by Kevin -

Whether you’re five years old or fifty-five years old, there’s something appealing about a coloring book. If you think about it, the same can be said for tattooing (ever notice how a five year old kid looks at your tattoos the same way a fifty-five year old woman does?)

The idea of combining tattoo’s and color book is not anything new, abd I think it’s safe to say the subject is never going to get old. The Coloring Book Project is a collection of 100 different tattoo artist sketches for you to color in. With 215 pages of designs and activities, this coloring book is sure to keep the attention of the artist in your family. The Coloring Book Project can be purchased for $25 online at Memento Publushing or at Tattoo Education.

Get Busy Making Art

Last weekend Shawn HebrankAlbie Rock and Meryl DePasquale got together and made twenty of the prints below. These two-color letter pressed prints were printed on a variety of red brown, white, hot orange, tan, mustard, avocado, goldenrod, and pale yellow colored paper. The ink colors are plum and tan, or plum and grey lavender, accordingly. In addition to the fancy printing, check out how each of these were wrapped up below.

You can be the proud owner of this print for $55. Contact Shawn directly to work out all of the details.

Ink & Dagger Tattoo team up with Steadfast Brand for the big boys

May 2nd, 2012 by Kevin -

Russ Abbott dropped us a know yesterday about Ink & Dagger Tattoo teaming up with Steadfast Brand to make it easier for everyone to get clothing. Here’s what he had to say:

I’m a big enough guy to make it difficult for me to find clothes that fit me and don’t make me want to slit my wrists. At nearly every show I go to, I inevitably have an even larger guy come by the booth and ask me if our t shirts come in “big boy” sizes. I proudly declare that they come in 2XL! and then they look at me and they look down at their belly and they just shake their head no. So this one’s for the guys that have no choice but to wear Dickies and Sean Jean. We are now carrying our popular Ink & Dagger T shirt in sizes Small through 5XL! In order to make ordering and delivery much easier, we have teamed up with our good friends over at Steadfast Brand. The Ink & Dagger store is live and already shipping. -Russ Abbott.
