303 Day in Denver

March 2nd, 2012 by Julene Huffman -

I’m from Denver, and I’m a big fan of the crew at Th’Ink Tank. Needless to say, the whole 303 Party concept

Due to the resounding success of our first event, Th’ink Tank Tattoo is proud to present our 2nd annual 303 Day. The crew at Th’ink Tank Tattoo will be dishing out another round of fun 303 inspired tattoos for $30 on Saturday, March 3rd. The tattooing will begin at 3pm and run until 3am on a first come, first served basis.

We will post a sneak peak at this year’s available designs within the next 3 days.

From the West Coast to the East Coast

February 21st, 2012 by Kevin -

Tonight Luke Wessman will be opening his newest art show at Max Fish in New York City. The opening reception starts at 9pm, and is open to the public. Here’s what Luke had to say about the event:

I’ve spent quite a few nights at this legendary Lower East Side bar/art gallery called Max Fish.  Out of the many places I’ve been to in this city, this is the one I feel the most at home. Thats why When I was asked about doing a show here I jumped at the opportunity. (second solo show ever, maybe last)

Max Fish is a Lower East Side institution, it has been serving cheap drinks back when Ludlow Street was nothing but dry goods stores and drug dealers. Now it’s all overpriced boutiques and frat boys, but Max remains, though the local clientele has been augmented by British tourists and PR girls. The big, high-ceilinged room has a pool table in the back, booths at both ends and a creative, ever-changing paint job pulling it all together.  Many complain about how bright the bar is, but the light level allows you to appreciate each month’s art show and offers a fighting chance against beer goggles.

The NYPD and the owner keep making attempts to shut this historical Lower East Side bar down, for no good reason. For now bar remains open and a landmark of significance to NYC, in particular its Lower East Side.  After over two decades, we hope it stays that way, open.

I’m honored to show some of my watercolor paintings at Max Fish, And to have my big brother Stack Aly DJ the event.

Caturday with Guen Douglas on Feb. 18th

February 1st, 2012 by Julene Huffman -

Talk all the shit you want on themed flash sheet days, but under the right circumstances they are an excellent way for tattooers to help raise money for a good cause.

Case in point: Guen Douglas and Bob Done at Magnum Opus Tattoo in Brighton are raising money for the City Cat Shelter. Stop through the shop from 11am-6pm on Saturday, February 18th with your minimum £50 donation to get yourself a sweet cattoo - and help provide basic things for felines, while you’re at it.

Shamanic Skin: photography by Lars Krutak

January 31st, 2012 by Julene Huffman -

Looking for a good way to start your evening on Saturday, February 4th? Head down to Sacred Gallery from 7-10pm for the NYC debut of “Shamanic Skin: The Art of Magical Tattooing.” The exhibition features thirty selected works from the portfolio of tattoo anthropologist Dr. Lars Krutak. The event is free and all are invited.

From the artist statement:

For the past fifteen years, Dr. Lars Krutak has travelled the globe to document the religious beliefs behind permanent forms of tribal body modification. His photographic exhibition focuses upon the deeply spiritual realm of tattoo through an examination of these fascinating rituals.

Don’t worry if you miss the opening night, as the entire exhibition will be available for viewing February 4th-29th from noon to 8pm daily. Further details about the exhibition can be found on the Facebook event page.

It’s Friday the 13th! (Again)

January 13th, 2012 by Julene Huffman -

Holy shit… another Friday the 13th. And you know what that means: fun single serving tattoos from all your favourites!

Here’s the events I know about:

I’m sure I missed a ton — please leave a comment with the shop name, link & location to be added to the list. :)

**Pro-tip: Don’t be a prick. Most shops add in a $7 tip. But c’mon, it’s on you for life. An extra couple bucks isn’t going to break the bank!

And remember: Show up with a mustache and leave with a mustache.
