Tattoos for Equality

April 18th, 2012 by Kevin -

On Thursday, Golden Spiral Tattoo will have a fund raiser for Equality NC. All proceeds will go to Equality NC, as they prepare to fight Amendment One. I don’t know a ton of details, but I do know no appointments are necessary. All tattoos will be 4″ or smaller, and tattoos around the waist and ribs are off the menu.

According to the Equality NC website, Amendment One will threaten unmarried couples’ visitation rights in hospitals and their ability to make emergency medical and financial decisions if their partner is incapacitated. Thousands of families across the state could be stripped of important rights.

April 14th: Wolves, Witches and Clever Children at Mercury Tattoo

April 10th, 2012 by Julene Huffman -

On April 14th Mercury Tattoo will be having their first art show at their new downtown location. From the Mercury Tattoo’s website:

“Wolves, Witches & Clever Children” is a group art show themed to Grimm’s fairy tales. The invited artists were asked to tie their work in to one of the hundreds of stories collected and retold by the Brothers Grimm. Speaking for myself, it was a very difficult choice which story I wanted to work out. Even stories I thought I was familiar with, when visited now, are much darker and surreal than what I remembered from my childhood.

To accompany the gallery show we will be having a home brew and cider tasting. Our thanks in advance to good friends Dylan Steeb and Lee Mcginniss. They are brewing beers to accompany the Grimm fairy tale theme! I was lucky enough to taste them already… and to be sure, these guys are skilled!

Oh, and there’s an after-party with live music around the block afterward. If you aren’t going, you’re missing out.

April 5th: The Original Zombie in Brooklyn

April 2nd, 2012 by Julene Huffman -

This Thursday, 8 of Swords Tattoo in Brooklyn, NY is putting on the Original Zombie Art Show. From the event page on Facebook:

These works are being displayed during the Easter holiday to intentionally coincide with our tongue in cheek “celebration” of Jesus Christ’s Biblical rise from the dead, therefore he was the “Original Zombie”.

If you can’t make it for the opening reception (7-11pm) the art will still be up through May 7th.

Grand Re-Opening at Off the Map Grants Pass

March 5th, 2012 by Kevin -

I hate to make this entry like a Craigslist post, but if anyone from the Portland area is planning on driving down to this – leave a message below. I’m interested in attending, I just don’t know if I’m up for a four hour solo trip.

For everyone else, if you live near Grants Pass, I think this is obviously something you should attend.
