Tattoos for Planned Parenthood

October 12th, 2012 by Julene Huffman -

I think I speak for most responsible (and uninsured) adults when I say Planned Parenthood is awesome, though astoundingly under-funded. Do something about it by heading to Golden Spiral Studio this upcoming Tuesday, October 16th from noon-10pm to help support their local PP!

Leave it to cleaver

September 24th, 2012 by Julene Huffman -

I’ve seen just enough Instagram previews to be insanely jealous of anyone living in southern California that plans on attending the Horror Business opening at Left Hand Black Gallery this weekend. For the unfamiliar:  it’s an entire show of hand-painted meat cleavers. As you can seen from the flier below, they’ve got a pretty impressive list of participating artists.

So now that I’m done sucking the proverbial dick of this event — go if you can. It’s this upcoming Saturday, September 29th from 6:00pm-10:00pm. Drinks will be provided but they’ve said to feel free to bring your own poison if necessary… and I think we all know that means there’s going to be plenty of fun to be had.

Support March of Dimes worldwide on September 22nd

September 18th, 2012 by Julene Huffman -

If you’re into tattooing for a cause, allow me to gently suggest you find a way to participate in Krooked Ken’s fifth annual Tattooing to Save Babies on September 22nd. While Krooked Ken’s letter on TAM was aimed at tattooers, I think it’s important for all of us to be aware of the work that March of Dimes does and how strong an impact they have on the families of premature babies.

As parents to two premature children, the March of Dimes has been an amazing source of strength and support to our family. They continue to fund and find amazing ways to save a child that has been born too soon. Through education and awareness we can fight against babies being born prematurely and having to face life long disabilities and even infant mortality. One in every eight babies born, are born prematurely.

If you’re a tattooer and would like to donate your time and work, it’s really easy to participate. As Ken said:

Just tattoo on Sept. 22nd just like any other day and at the end of the day donate all of your proceeds by mailing your check or money order made out to the March of Dimes to: Tattooing to Save Babies
1201 Tuckahoe Ct.
Denton MD 21629

–or by using your PayPal account and send your donation to krookedken@gmail.com. All proceeds need to be received no later than November 1st.

Some shops like to advertise their event locally to draw customers and others just tattoo their normal appointments like any other day and forward the donation without fan fare. It is totally up to you and your shop.

If September 22nd does not work for you, any date is fine as long as the proceeds are forwarded by November 1st.
