Cat-fish

I typically roll my eyes at cat pieces, but I absolutely love this. Daniel Adamczyk has such a unique style, I love his approach to tattooing. Yes, it’s different but that’s the reason I like it so much.

Working Class

I’ve been a fan of Mike Giant for a long time, and I still am to this day. When I first saw this documentary featuring Mike Giant and Mike Maxwell, I had to watch to it. Thankfully we don’t have to wait to watch it, as it’s already available to purchase via download or on DVD.

WORKING CLASS TELLS THE TALE OF UNDERGROUND ARTISTS MIKE GIANT AND MIKE MAXWELL AND THEIR DECADE LONG FRIENDSHIP THAT STARTED WITH A TATTOO. THE STORY IS TOLD THROUGH THE CITIES THEY CALL HOME BY, CUTTING BACK AND FOURTH BETWEEN THE NEIGHBORHOODS OF SAN FRANCISCO AND SAN DIEGO, AS THE ARTISTS TALK ABOUT ART AND LIFE.

LOOSELY BASED ON CHARLES DICKEN’S BOOK “THE TALE OF TWO CITIES”. THE FILM IS DIVIDED INTO TWO “BOOKS” BOOK 1 -ART AND BOOK 2- LIFE, WHICH SHOWS THE CONNECTION BETWEEN THEIR LIFE PHILOSOPHIES AND THE WORK THEY CREATE. THE TWO MIKES HAVE BEEN ALLIES IN UNDERGROUND ART FOR OVER A DECADE AND HAVE BOTH GAINED RECOGNITION FOR THEIR SHARPLY DRAWN CHARACTERS INSPIRED BY THE WORKING CLASS.

Learning about St. Sebastian

As most of you know, neither Julene or I are very religious. Thankfully religion has nothing to do with great tattoo work, but we definitely have to do some research when it comes to pieces like these. I don’t think you need to know the full history to appreciate a piece, but it’s helpful.

Better suited to Halloween

I heard my first Christmas music in a public space today, and to combat this I am posting a tattoo better suited to Halloween. Bloody handprints! A nod to Psycho, perhaps?

Stop stealing from Lionel Fahy

After reading this post on Lionel Fahy’s Tumblr, I corrected some of the grammar so I could better share it with Tattoo Snob’s primarily English-speaking readers:

Some days are the most boring days ever. Today I received this email from the States:

Hi Lionel,

I have been following your work for several years now, It’s absolutely mind blowing to me. I want a tattoo done by you but I know that will never happen. I would like to get your permission to pick out one of your works and have another artist here in the states “TRY” to replicate it. It certainly won’t be the same, too me it will be like getting a copy of a Picasso or Van Gogh but I want one so bad it hurts. –name redacted

This is just one email chosen from dozens of similar ones I receive every year. And on the same shitty day I can read stuff like this on someone else’s Facebook:

[NAME REMOVED] I want some some work done… but it’s not like your usual. I don’t know if you’d be willing to do it, but since I can’t afford to go overseas for a tattoo I thought you might look at some of this guy’s work and tell me what you think. His name is Lionel Fahy with Out of Step Tattoos. Check it out & get back to me!!!

Here’s what that tattooer had to say in response:

Very cool stuff, def. unique…i’d love to give it a try, when would u like to do something?

So, what the hell should I do!?! Ending the story of this blog? Just because some people are not creative enough to think for themselves?

Please stop stealing my work. Stop stealing my customers, stop stealing their tattoos, stop stealing their stories, and think for yourself! Bloody hell!!!

And please, stop asking me to draw something for you for free so you can get it tattooed by someone else! I work only with serious people. One tattoo for one story for one person. If you want a tattoo done by me, make an appointment with me and make the trip. You’re getting on my nerves!

Can’t say that I blame the guy, you know?
